The Artist
Darren Emenau was raised in New Brunswick, Canada, and is an award winning graduate of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Emenau specializes in locally dug clay work and his glazes are developed from local materials like potash, silica, shale, and granite. In his spare time he is a freelance teacher of various form-making and firing techniques. Darren has received consistent recognition for his art practice and professional achievements over the past ten years, including New Brunswick Arts Board Creation Grants in 2008, 2004 and 2000. A regional grant was awarded in 2011 and 2010 to work and educated children about using local materials to produce ceramics. His work has been presented across Canada and is included in public and private collections across the country, and in private collections worldwide. In 2007, Emenau’s work was featured in Ceramics Monthly, and he will present a solo exhibition entitled “Tributaries” at the New Brunswick Museum in 2012 as part of the “Know Your Own Artists” Series. His work was on display in the Canadian Pavillion at the 2009 Cheongju International Craft Biennale in South Korea. He is currently doing an outreach program with grades K – 12, teaching them about local ceramic materials and employing their uses. The kids and Darren will make collaborative work to be showcased.
